Our comedy short, Modern Woman Fitness, was so fun to film. Would love to shoot lots more comedy sketches like this! We screened at Cake Batter's Funny Women Festival at IO West in Los Angeles! So excited to work with our talented producer and star Christine Fairfax! Also, big thanks to Finest City Improv where we filmed and the sketch came together! Bring on the funny ladies!

You're Not Funny is a drama about a struggling comedian who pits his passion against his loved ones. I wore a lot of hats for this film including: associate producer, actress, location manager, and script supervisor! This film was produced by Balestra Entertainment.

Improv is Fun!

I am LOVING my improv class more and more every week. As my classmates and I develop “group mind” it becomes that much more fun! I’ve got two shows coming up at the end of this month and another couple in October! Definitely a change from film acting. So different! My only complaint is sometimes it's hard for me to fall asleep on improv nights because I'm wired. Such a natural high :) 

Down Time

It’s been quiet.  Down time used to be scary for me.  Self-doubt collecting in the empty moments. Now I just enjoy the slower pace while it lasts. There’s time to play music with my family band, exercise more, and dream up new projects.  I have faith that there are great opportunities on their way and now is the time to rest up for the next round of busy.  

The Joys of June!

What a month! June 2014 has been so fun! It started with a sold out screening of Flower Power, a short film I acted in.  My family was there for support and it was a blast at the super-hip Digital Gym in North Park. Then I filmed 5 episodes of my Gardening Series with Balestra Entertainment. How cool to shoot with friends and see all of our planning come together.  The series is currently being edited.  Can’t wait to share! Another highlight of the month has been taking a weekly improv class with Finest City Improv.  Who knew how cool improv could be! I love it! Being with a great class/teacher and getting to work with everyone on a regular basis is something I look forward to each week. Finally, I had a great audition for a Kid’s Web Series.  Would be my dream come true to do a kid’s show!  Visualizing something like Sesame Street or Yo Gabba Gabba! Some day! So thankful.  Keep it coming!

Improv Workshop on Position Play

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of taking a workshop taught by Brian James O’Connell at Finest City Improv.

The class was funny, fast paced and interactive. I left feeling a little more knowledgeable in comedy improv and a little more eager to take my next improv class.  I jotted down some notes that I’m going to list here:

• Never too late to drop the baby or pick up a French accent
• Specificity is good
• You have 3 lines or 30 seconds
• Yes, and… (it’s punctuated)
• Slow Down
• Start with a declarative statement
• When in doubt, shut up
• Laughs are to be earned, not chased
• Mortality, Sexuality, Political Structure, Social Structure, and Religion

Ok, not sure if I got those all exactly right and there was lots more, but I just wanted to put it here as a reminder to myself and a taste for others who may be thinking of studying with Brian.
